Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
