Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I said I will never coach another team within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly great spirits around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. The team has suffered four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Impossible.”
