Miami put up 86 first-half points versus the Memphis Grizzlies
The Heat claimed a overwhelming 146-114 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in their first basketball match after player Terry Rozier was detained for alleged illegal gambling.
Trail Blazers coach Billups was also arrested as part of a broad FBI probe into illegal gambling. The two individuals deny the claims.
However, the Heat were focused as they recorded 86 first-half points to be ahead of the Grizzlies by thirty-nine after two quarters, the largest halftime lead in the franchise's 37 year existence.
Bam Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and afterwards said Terry had the team's full backing.
"We stand behind him. Full support," Adebayo said. "You support him through and through. He's like family ultimately."
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Terry is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our locker room.
"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces this."
Portland also won their first game since the arrests, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter taking over as interim coach in Chauncey's absence and leading the team to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Golden State Warriors.
"We all had positive times with Billups and how he coached," Tiago remarked. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."
Speaking about the arrests for the first time, league head Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.
"There's nothing more important to the NBA and supporters than the integrity of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "And so I had a pit in my stomach. It was very upsetting."
The commissioner also mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.
"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the gambling firms," he added.
"We investigated the matter and were open regarding it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, honestly, found no evidence.
"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the league office can't do.
"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an indictment.
"Moreover two and a half years after, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Terry.
"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and investigating."
Elsewhere, Lakers player Doncic scored over forty points for the consecutive match straight to start the season.
After racking up forty-three points in a first loss to the Warriors, the Slovenian put up forty-nine points - to go with 11 boards and 8 assists - as the Los Angeles defeated the Timberwolves 128 to 110.
From Greece player Giannis Antetokounmpo also had a strong performance with 31 points, twenty boards and seven passes in the Bucks' 122-116 victory at the Raptors.
