Former BBC Advisers Face MPs' Inquiry Following Assertions of Prejudice in Leaked Memo

We start with queries from Conservative lawmaker the committee chair, who leads the panel.

She initiates by giving background to the unauthorized document prepared by Michael Prescott and published in a daily publication.

"I don't want the BBC leaning toward one side or the other, I just want it straight, unbiased and fair," he says.

Upon being questioned whether he thinks the BBC is institutionally biased, the adviser responds: "Absolutely not. It is important to note, tons of stuff the British Broadcasting Corporation does is top-tier - including factual and entertainment programming."

Nevertheless, he states: "There exists significant effort that needs to be done at the British Broadcasting Corporation."

The second previous consultant BBC adviser questioned by the panel, Caroline Daniel, remarks she views the BBC extremely earnestly and that it has a "persistent practice and lively discussion" on fluid and multifaceted issues.

"Whether the BBC was willing to have a proper dialogue and exchange and implement changes?" she questions. "In my view, yes they were."
