The British boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities announced on late Wednesday. The fighter was involved in a car accident outside Lagos on Monday, a horrific crash that claimed the lives of two of his valued colleagues.
The sports star had been receiving medical attention while recovering from minor injuries, his management team confirmed on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed in an update on X that Joshua was judged healthy enough to continue his recovery at home.
“The boxer and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to say their last goodbyes to his two friends who passed away as they were being prepared for repatriation,” Omotosho said.
The two men who died were identified as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. The official further stated that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and overcome with emotion over the loss of his two trusted companions.”
This update on his health comes as the sports world shared sympathy for the star in the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident.
